Yara Greyjoy, also known as Asha Greyjoy in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, is the eldest child of Balon Greyjoy and his only surviving daughter. She is the headstrong and capable commander of the Iron Fleet, fiercely loyal to her family and the Iron Islands.

Initially presented as a skilled warrior and leader, Yara returns to Pyke after the presumed death of her brothers, Rodrik and Maron, positioning herself as a potential heir to the Seastone Chair. Her father, however, favors his youngest son, Theon, despite Theon's time as a ward of the Starks.

After Theon betrays the Starks and seizes Winterfell, Yara attempts to rescue him from the Boltons, but is unsuccessful. Following Balon's death, she contends for the throne of the Iron Islands against her uncle, Euron, ultimately fleeing with her loyalists to seek refuge with Daenerys Targaryen.

Yara pledges her allegiance to Daenerys, hoping to secure the Iron Islands' independence in exchange for her support. She later plays a role in the war against the White Walkers and, ultimately, supports Jon Snow's claim to the Iron Throne.
